Music: Sarah Thawer
Sarah Thawer is a JUNO-nominated drummer and recording artist known for her electric energy and versatile playing style. She has toured and collaborated with many notable up-and-coming and established artists, including George Watsky, Jon Batiste, Tegan and Sara, Robert Sput Searight, and Ghost Note to name a few. She has also made appearances on the Seth Meyers Show and NPR’s Tiny Desk Sessions.
Based in Scarborough, Sarah first started playing at the tender age of 2, and got her first shot at the stage when she was 5. As a young musician, she was widely self-taught, and has enjoyed a busy, non-stop career ever since. Currently, Sarah is performing, recording and touring across the world, performing solo as well as with her own band. Her diverse musical knowledge and experiences allow her to play a wide range of genres from Jazz and Fusion all the way to Indian, Funk, R&B, Hip-hop, and Latin.
Sarah is an alumna of York University and a former recipient of the Oscar Peterson Scholarship, the highest award of the institution, graduating Summa Cum Laude while studying Jazz and World Music.
